“ I was traveling south on the eastern sidewalk in front of the complex of stores at Leschi park. [This is a marked bike path.] There is a blind corner, obscured by bushes, at the southern terminous of the sidewalk/bike path. A pickup truck was unparking behind the bushes. I saw it late, did an panic stop, and my front wheel locked. The bike and I cartwheeled forward and I fell, hitting my left shoulder on the road, breaking my clavicle. My head also hit on my left temple, which was protected by my helmet. I nevertheless suffered a mild concussion. Without the helmet I would have been very seriously hurt. Note that my brake pads were less than one week old. The accident would have been mitigated by older and softer pads and/or some 'antilock' system. I'd like to emphasize this last point: WE NEED ANTILOCK BRAKES. And those bushes should be trimmed. ”
